Thanks for the laughs!

These past weeks have flown by.  We've had a great time in room 203 and I know that the good times will continue in January with Miss Lowen.  I'll be around Clairlea all the time, so you won't even have a chance to miss me.

Thank you so much for all of the thoughtful gifts and generous donations to our classroom party.  We had a great day.  It was the perfect way to kick off the holidays!  Be safe and happy this holiday season.

With love,
Ms. Purvis

One More Day!

Congratulations to all of the students in Room 203!  We won the prize for the most participants in Twin Day at our school.  I can see lots of jerseys, hats, scarves and mittens for Jersey Day.  Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best!

Tomorrow is Festive Wear day.  We have a Panther assembly in the morning and lots of celebrating to do in the afternoon.  Students are welcome to bring in a snack to share with their friends as long as it is totally nut free.  Also, please do not bring in any seafood including seaweed.

This has been a wonderful couple of months.  We've had a lot of fun and learned a lot.  Every student in this class has experienced success and I'm sure that they will continue to do so in the new year.  I can't wait to see what Room 203 has in store for them.

These are the names we know...

A couple of people were asking for class lists for our end of the year celebrations.

These are the wonderful kids in room 203:

Brett, Christina, Samuel, Mackenzie, Joanna, Aliya, Kyia, William, Jasmine, Rachel, Zen, Timothy, Sara K, Ayesha, Sara W, Anisha, Nathan, Robert, Hailey, Julia, Eunju, Michelle, Harishan and Faith.

If all goes well (and I'm sure it will) we'll be celebrating the holidays on Thursday, December 19th. Students are welcome to bring in a snack to share with the class but it's not necessary. Thursday will be my last day with the kids from Room 203 so we'll want to celebrate the great time we've had and remember our accomplishments. We'll play games, read holiday stories, play outside and celebrate the next chapter for the kids.

DON't FORGET!! TOMORROW IS "TWIN DAY". Come dressed up with a friend or join our class' Twin Day family. Just wear jeans and a purple top. I'll bring the rest ; )

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to all of the poets in Room 203.  You have a lot to be proud of!  Your guests were very impressed with your readings.  I was very impressed with how well you hosted the event.  You made the room look wonderful, made the guests feel welcome and made your teacher proud.  Congratulations!

Also, we're up to 40 donations for the food drive.  Congratulations!  Don't forget, all of your donations will directly help people in our community who are having a hard time buying groceries this month.  December can be a difficult month for a lot of people, if you can help it would really be appreciated.

Next week is Spirit Week at Clairlea.  Don't forget to dress up and get into the holiday spirit.

Monday:  Pyjama Day!

Tuesday:  Twin Day!  We'll talk about this in class tomorrow...

Wednesday:  Jersey Day!  Wear jerseys, hats, sweatshirts...anything that supports your favourite team.

Thursday:  Festive Dress!  Wear anything you like that puts you in a holiday mood :)

Friday:  STAY AT HOME DAY!!!  The best day of all!

One More Sleep!

We couldn't be more excited about our upcoming Poetry Cafe on Tuesday, December 10th at 4:00.  The students have been practicing hard and I'm so impressed with their work.

Most students will be staying after school to help set up the cafe.  If you would like to pick up your child at 3:15, that's fine but they should be back no later than 3:45.

We'll have some snacks in the room for all visitors.  We'll also have our boxes ready for the food drive and hat and mitten drive.  We'll gladly accept all donations.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Rocks and Minerals are Delicious!

Our class has begun an exploration of soil, rocks and minerals.  We spent some time learning about the differences between rocks and minerals and enjoyed a delicious rock cookie.  The students used different tools to extract the "minerals" from their "rocks".  After they disposed of their rocks and minerals (yum!), we investigated some real rocks and minerals from various regions in Canada.  The students compared and created scientific diagrams for their cookie and real rock examples.  All in all, a delicious excavation!
